More about the New World Finn...
- Contributors Over 200 writers and artists and other contributors in the last six years have been at the heart of the publication of the New World Finn. Their contributions are appreciated by numerous readers throughout the US, Canada, and Finland. The New World Finn is a journal that gives voice to anyone who would like to express themselves about something Finnish. We offer our contributors a forum to demonstrate their art, their craft, and their opinions. We like to think of ourselves as a connecting point for Finnish, Finnish American, and Finnish Canadian culture, i.e., the new, worldwide culture of people that have a Finnish connection. Contributors come from all three national areas. Our criteria for accepting contributions is not whether the contributor has "Finnish blood", but rather if the contribution is quality work that has somehow or other a connection to Finnish culture.
- A Continuation of the
Long History of Finnish Publishing in North America NWF is a quarterly journal that fits
into a long history of publishing in Finnish North America. There
have been more than 200 newspapers, magazines and journals since
Finns started migrating to these shores. At the present time
there are at least two weeklies published in the US (bi-lingual),
and two in Canada. There is also a monthly (the Finnish American
Reporter). Local organizations throughout the US and Canada also
publish newsletters.
- Publisher The publisher of NWF is Finnish American
Publishers, Inc., owned by educator Ivy Nevala of Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. She committed herself to publishing NWF because she
felt there was a need for a publication in North America about
Finnish culture.
- Editor In Duluth, Minnesota, Gerry Luoma Henkel solicits,
receives, and edits all material for the publication. He also
makes Finnish folk music instruments - kantele and jouhikkos.
- Subscriptions Subscriptions rates for the NWF are
$20.00 USA ($26.00 first class USA, $28.00 Canada and International.)
